译文
北国秋末，霜天晓角，草木似乎都为之震惊悲哀。盘山顶上云头相对升起，石门也好像敞开了。
在北风中喝着边地的薄酒也没能喝醉，无数的寒鸦，在风扫落叶中纷纷飞来。
只要能用武力制止外敌入侵，消除战争的祸根，情愿终生到老戍守边疆。
对有功的名将应刻石勒铭，谁有这样的资格呢？只有像名将李广、李靖这样制止外敌入侵的英雄，才配享有这种荣誉。
注释
盘山：小名，又名盘龙山，在蓟县西北。
角：古时军中的一种乐器。
石门开：两峰对峙，中间如开着的石门。
虏（lǔ）酒（边酒）：边塞地区少数民族酿制的酒。
玄戈（雕戈）：铁戈，泛指兵器。
老边才：终生守边的将士。
吾谁与：谁是我取法的榜样。
舞剑台：盘山上有李靖舞剑台。

登盘山绝顶创作背景
该首诗大致作于明神宗万历二年（1574）前后。戚继光在东南沿海荡平倭患之后，北调京师，总理蓟州、昌平、保定练兵事务。后任总兵，镇守蓟门，积极修防备战，严明军纪，屡次击败来犯之敌。戚继光于南方平定倭寇之患后，在蓟州守边时便写下了该首诗 。

登盘山绝顶鉴赏
诗篇前四句写山上景色。诗人登上盘山之巅，耳边传来军营之中的声声号角回荡在山间，漫山的草木为之肃然。望着那山头上的片片白云，隐约显现出对峙的山峰，犹如洞开的石门巍然屹立。飒飒北风徐徐吹来,送来边地醇美的酒香。这酒再香，也不会使诗人陶醉，而使诗人为之倾倒的是那片片的落叶，无数的归鸦，深秋的景色，壮丽的山河。
诗篇后四句抒情壮志。作为一个将领，要如何来保卫这大好的河山。诗人立下誓愿，只要紧握手中的武器，制止外敌的进扰，即使是白发苍苍守边到老，也就了却他赤胆忠心报效国家的意愿。前人在山上刻石留名的人不少，其中最值得作者称赞的是唐初名将李靖，他一生征战南北为困立功，后人为纪念他，在山上筑有舞创台，他是作者效法的榜样。
全诗写情抒景，以景寓情，情景交融，自然得体。诗人用“霜角”、“朔风”、“落叶”、“归鸦”等词，描绘出深秋的景色，静中有动，声色俱存，衬托出边境晏然的一派和平景象。“但使雕戈销杀气，未妨白发老边才”是全诗的传神之笔，也是为后诗传诵的名句绝唱。当时诗人正直年富力强，施展抱负的时候，登高远望，心旷神怡，万物容于胸中，欣然命笔于纸上，故表现在诗篇中境意开阔，形象鲜明，格调高昂，气势磅礴。读来有如临其境，如见其人之感，使人奋发向上。诗人虽身为武将，但在这首诗里，反映了他在文学方面的诗艺造诣。
