先礼后兵的典故

曹操成气候之后，派人去琅琊接父亲曹嵩。曹嵩路过陶谦那里的时候，陶谦招待了他，并且派张颌带军护送。护送的当天晚上，寄宿在一古庙，张颌及其军士睡在外面保护，恰巧天下雨，士兵有怨言，生了抢夺曹家辎重之心，结果曹嵩被杀。

曹操以陶谦纵容手下杀害父亲，想报杀父之仇，起兵讨伐。陶谦势力小，求助于孔融，结果孔融救他没救成，也被困了。孔融手下太史慈单枪匹马杀出城，求助刘备相救。刘备于是去找公孙瓒借了3000兵，来救孔融。

曹操得到信，大怒，欲讨伐刘备。曹操的谋士郭嘉说了这么句话：刘备远来救援，先礼后兵，主公当用好言答之，以慢备心，然后进兵攻城，城可破也。
