小心翼翼的典故

由于父亲的严格要求，贾黄中十五岁就考中进士，当了校书郎。贾黄中为官清廉正直。他在任宣州大守时，有一年闹灾荒，百姓饿死不少。贾黄中就用自家的米做饭，救活了几千人。他在金陵任职的时候，发现府库内藏有几十匣金银宝贝，价值连城，马上清理上报朝廷。

宋大宗十分高兴，夸奖他说，若不是他廉洁奉公，这些前朝的宝贝一定会丢失；此外还特地召见了贾黄中的母亲，赞扬她教子有功，可以比作孟子的母亲。

但是，贾黄中办事过分认真、慎重，遇到大事往往不能当机立断。后来他被派往外地任职，在向太宗辞行时，太宗告诫他说：“做事恭谦，小心谨慎，不论是做君的还是做臣的都应该这样，但是如果做得太过分了，就失去了大臣的身份。”贾黄中死时，家中很穷，皇帝特地赐钱三十万，又给他老母亲白银三百两，以表彰他为官廉洁无私，他母亲教子有方。
