基本解释汉刘向《列女传》载：孟母带着年幼的孟子，起初住在公墓附近，孟子就模仿哭丧；后迁居集市，又跟着学商人自吹自夸；孟母迁居学堂附近，孟子从此学习礼节，要求上学。后人用“孟母三迁”、“三迁之教”比喻选择居住合适的环境以利于教育子女。

三迁之教的典故

战国时期，孟子小时候非常聪明，经常模仿送葬人吹喇叭，孟母担心他荒废学业就把家搬到城里，刚好旁边是一个屠宰场，孟子很快就学会了杀猪宰羊，孟母只好搬家到一个学校附近，从此孟子就开始学习孔子的思想而成为一代思想家。
