东汉初年，光武帝刘秀率军围攻邯郸城，攻破邯郸后，杀死守将王郎。在收到的各种文书中，其中有许多与王郎交往密切的官吏上书毁谤的文书数千篇。光武帝很不高兴，就率手下大将将这些文书全部烧掉，并说：“令反侧子自安。”
