基本解释战国楚宋玉《高唐赋》：“昔者先王尝游高唐，怠而昼寝，梦见一妇人，曰：‘妾，巫山之女也，为高唐之客。闻君游高唐，原荐枕席。’王因幸之。去而辞曰：‘妾在巫山之阳，高丘之阻，旦为朝云，暮为行雨，朝朝暮暮，阳台之下。’”后以“暮雨朝云”指男女间的情爱与欢会。

暮雨朝云的典故
传说古代楚襄王游览高唐地区，十分疲倦就在白天小睡了一会，在梦中看见一个仙女说：“我是高唐人，听说你来了，愿意给你当枕席。”楚襄王临幸了她。临别她说：“妾在巫山之阳，高丘之阻。旦为朝云，暮为行雨，朝朝暮暮，阳台之下。”
