公元949年，后汉叛将李守贞率军进攻河西(今甘肃河西走廊一带)。行动前，他叫人假扮卖酒商贩，以小利引诱河西郭威部众畅饮，然后乘其酒醉，偷袭河西军营。郭威得知后，立即下令：河西除犒赏、设宴外，一律不准私自饮酒，违者当斩。一次，郭威最亲近的将领李审违犯规定喝了酒，他派人将李审找来怒斥一顿后，立即推出斩首。河西官兵从此再不敢随便喝酒。
