唐朝时期，李茂贞因战功卓著，官运亨通。他恃功自傲，拥重兵干涉朝政，昭宗皇帝即位后，就出兵讨伐他而失败。后来李茂贞几次造反未成功，元气大伤。他的军士自由散漫惯了，经常是席地而坐，开怀畅饮，大呼小叫，只好自生自灭。
