秦末汉初，出身平民的樊哙、郦商、夏侯婴、灌婴四人因为投靠刘邦而成为显赫人物。樊哙原是杀狗的屠夫，因娶了吕后的妹妹而“附凤”被封舞阳侯。郦商被赐信成君，夏侯婴因救了刘邦的妻儿被封汝阴侯，灌婴被封宣陵君。
