西汉时期，吕后专政想让她的兄弟子侄都做王，征询右丞相王陵的意见，王陵面折廷争，坚决不同意，而左丞相陈平与太尉周勃则从长计议就同意吕后的意见。王陵因此被罢官。吕后去世，陈平与周勃用计杀死想夺取政权的吕产、吕禄。
