螳臂当车的典故

春秋时，鲁国有个贤人名叫颜阖（hé），被卫国灵公请去当其太子蒯瞆（kuǎi guì）的老师。颜阖听说蒯瞆是个有凶德的人，到卫国后，就先去拜访卫国贤者蘧（qú）伯玉，请教如何教好蒯瞆。蘧伯玉回答说，您先来问情况是对的，有好处，但要想用您的才能教好太子是很难达到目的的。并进一步说道：“汝不知夫螳蜋（同螂）乎？怒其臂以当车辙，不知其不胜任也，是其才之美者也。戒之，慎之！”意思是：螳螂鼓起双臂来阻挡前进的车轮子，它不知道自己是力不胜任的，而是确实认为自己的这种举动是好的，是有益的。颜阖啊！您的心是好的，但您的作为像螳臂当车一样，您要戒备啊！慎重呀。
