春秋时期，音乐家师旷劝晋悼公姬周施行仁政，晋悼公十分喜欢他的音乐。晋平公姬彪时，师旷的演奏技艺可以呼风唤雨。齐灵公吕环侵略鲁国，晋平公应鲁国的请求援救，齐国向楚军求救。师旷随军奏乐，使得楚军南风不竞，落荒而逃。
