不治之症的典故

刘德夫妻是宣德年间天津河西务镇人，在运河边开了个小酒店，老两口六十多岁了，膝下无子。一日，寒天大雪，一个叫方勇的老军士带着十二岁的儿子方申回山东老家，来店里躲避风雪。刘公不嫌弃他们穷，用酒肉款待他们，还挽留他们过夜，说：“四海之内都是兄弟。”方勇受了风寒，半夜发作起来。刘公夫妇又是端汤、又是加被。一早刘公冒雪请来医生。此时方勇已是不醒人世，医生诊了脉，说：“这叫‘双感伤寒’，是不治之症，只有七日了。”刘公夫妻把店中生意歇了，全力照料方勇。几天后方勇死了，刘公夫妇将方勇葬在自家祖坟里，将无依无靠的方申收为义子，改名刘方。刘方辛勤帮家、奉侍义父母，家业渐渐兴隆。大家都说这是阴德报应。

几年后，义父母患病，刘方衣不解带服侍。义父母相继亡故，刘方将他们葬了，又回山东迁来将自己母亲的墓，两家合葬在一处，自己守着酒店安心过活。
